In light of the Easter season, I’ve decided to re-post this post from last year!  Here are 10 Easter traditions that we have…

10. The Miracle Maker – great movie!

9. Cadbury eggs – yum!

8. Palm Sunday Baptisms – our church has a traditions of doing baptisms on Palm Sunday.  It is one of the most powerful services we have every year.

7. Easter Baskets – my mom always used to hide our Easter baskets in the house and we would get up and search for them before church.

6. Easter Breakfast – another tradition our church has is a free community breakfast before our combinded Easter service at our local high school (we usually have 3 services every Sunday).  It is a great time for our entire church to come together once a year.

5. New Easter Outfit – I always get a new outfit for Easter Sunday… do you?

4. Easter Bunny cake – my mom has a great (easy) recipe/instructions for making an Easter Bunny cake… it looks something like this:

3.  Decorating eggs – its been a few years since I have done this but I know it will be something that I do again once I have kids that are older.

2. Family Dinner – always a big part of our Easter Sunday…

1. Special Easter Church Events – over the last several years we have participated in special events at our church during Easter.  The picture below was taken from something that we did last year called Experiencing Jesus’ Passion – an interactive experience of the Easter story involving art and drama.  This year we are planning on attending a combined Good Friday service and then celebrating Easter Sunday with our traditional Easter Breakfast and combined campus Easter Service at the local high school.

I am now 36 weeks!  My weekly update from babycenter.com says that next week my baby will be full term.  Yikes!  Everyone around me keeps saying “Oh, I bet you are ready for that baby to come…” and my reply is “Nope!  I’m hoping to go until April 27 (my due date).”  Here are my top ten reasons why I don’t want the baby to come early:

10.  Our dresser/changing table hasn’t arrived yet.  Once it gets here I feel like I will be able to start sorting clothes, and getting organized.

9. We need to finish setting up the nursery. Yes, I know that the baby isn’t even going to use the nursery for a few months, however I so badly want it to be ready to go so that I can put things away.  This will definitely help me to feel more ready!

8. I need to organize all my gifts from my baby shower.  We were blessed to have a beautiful shower about a month ago and I got so many great items!  However since we don’t quite have our nursery set up, everything has been put into the closet of the nursery.  I have no idea what I need for clothes, onesies, blankets, etc.!

7. I have not finished (started) my thank you notes for the shower.  I have a lofty goal of getting them all done before the baby comes…

6. We haven’t gone on our ‘baby-moon’.  Erik and I carved out a night for us to go away together… originally we planned on doing a weekend away however with our work schedules (he has been doing some big implementations, and I have to be around for Easter events) we can only manage 2days/1night.  But that’s ok…even one night away will be great!

5. We haven’t completely decided on names.  We have the basics picked out but we need to agree and decide on first and middle name combos, etc.

4. Work.  I am not ready to go on maternity leave.  I still need to find volunteers, set up schedule, and determine who will be doing my tasks while I am gone!  Things are starting to come together… but I don’t feel ready yet!

3.  I still need to figure out this hypno-birthing thing and develop a birthing plan.  We have been taking hypno-birthing, which is great (several friends and family members have used it), but I don’t feel like I have it all figured out yet.  I need to finish the book and set up my basic plan of action for my labor. Erik laughs at me because everytime we do guided visualization in class to help us relax I tell him later how my mind wanders everytime I close my eyes and I can’t seem to focus.  I think that I’m going to need something to look at to focus on… like Bible verses on index cards that I can read over and over again and focus on during my ‘surges’.    We also took a waterbirth class and are very open to using it as an option based on several positive experiences that our friends have had.

2. I haven’t packed my bag for the hospital yet.  What in the world do I need to bring?  What will I fit into?  Is it bad if we bring our extra large suitcases to the hospital?

1.  How in the world am I going to know how to take care of a baby?  Although I love kids, I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to a newborn.  Yikes!
